Tsinghua University recently launched a special fund in Beijing to promote scientific research, personnel training, social services and international cooperation in the sector of cultural creativity.
Shan Jixiang, a Tsinghua alumnus and former director of the Palace Museum and head of the China Cultural Relics Academy, will serve as the honorary director of the fund’s management committee.
Shan spoke highly of the fund, saying that its establishment is important for expanding China’s cultural influence and increasing its cultural confidence and is of great significance to the development of Tsinghua University.
According to Shan, cultural creativity plays a huge role in educating youth and the fund will help them fall in love with Chinese culture, enjoy it and in turn advance it. He called on more individuals and institutions to support the industry and promote excellent traditional Chinese culture to the world.
Chen Xu, Chairperson of Tsinghua University Council, said the fund implemented Tsinghua's development strategy of becoming "more innovative, more international and more humanities-orientated".
She noted that it is also part of the university's active participation in national cultural construction and the enhancement of cultural confidence, and will boost innovative talent cultivation.
The fund was initiated and sponsored by Tsinghua alumnus Lan Chun, Chairman of New Talent Holding Group, a Beijing-based enterprise specializing in education, health, science and technology, housing and the creative cultural business.
In his speech, Lan Chun said he hopes the fund will contribute to disciplinary integration and personnel training in the sector, apply Chinese people’s wisdom to global issues, and cultivate more talents with profound cultural backgrounds through masterclasses, social practice and innovation competitions.
