Global scholars share efforts to combat COVID-19

Facing the outbreak of COVID-19, scholars across the world demonstrate their dedication in sharing efforts to combat the epidemic.

In early March, Professor Zhang Xuegong from the Department of Automation at Tsinghua University wrote a letter to the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB), in which Professor Zhang illustrated the work that Chinese computational biologists have made in the battle against the COVID-19, and expressed his gratefulness for the support from international counterparts.

Professor Zhang Xuegong was elected as one of the 2020 Class of Fellows of ISCB this February, for his contribution in the development of computational methods for analyzing transcriptomic and RNA-seq data. He has also been recognized for establishing an influential graduate program, educating a generation of students, and promoting the field of computational biology and bioinformatics in China.

Founded in 1997, ISCB is the world’s largest academic society in the field of bioinformatics and computational biology. The ISCB Fellows program was created to honor members who have distinguished themselves through outstanding contributions to the fields of computational biology and bioinformatics. Professor Zhang is the first Chinese scholar to win an ISCB fellowship.
