The Ministry of Education announces Outstanding Achievement Award for Research in Institutes of Higher Education in 2019, and Tsinghua’s 16 achievements win awards, including the only Grand Prize

On December 20th, the 2019 Outstanding Achievement Award for Research in Institutes of Higher Education (Science and Technology) was held at Xijiao Hotel in Beijing. As No. 1 unit, Tsinghua University won 16 awards, including one Grand Prize (the only one in the year), 11 first prizes and four second prizes. In addition, two teachers, Wu Hui of the Tsinghua School of Materials Science and Engineering (SMSE) and Li Dan of the Tsinghua Department of Computer Science and Technology (DCST) won the Youth Science Award.

The Outstanding Achievement Award for Research in Institutes of Higher Education (Science and Technology), addressing institutions of higher education across China, is reviewed once a year. It is divided into the Natural Science Award, the Technological Invention Award, the Science and Technology Progress Award and the Youth Science Award, mainly awarded to individuals and units that have made outstanding contributions in scientific discovery, technological invention and the promotion of scientific and technological progress. In 2019, 315 national projects (people) were awarded, including 40 first prizes and 80 second prizes for natural science, 27 first prizes and 22 second prizes for technological invention, one grand prize for progress in science and technology, 49 first prizes and 86 second prizes (including one for popular science), and 10 young science awards.
