Tsinghua University’s 30th episode of “Top Talk” was held on the night of December 6th. Professor Peter Agre, the 2003 Nobel Prize winner in Chemistry, discussed the relationship between fundamental research in life sciences and clinical applications with Tsinghua students. Professor Lu Bai, researcher Xiao Bailong, and over 150 students from the School of Pharmaceutical Science, Tsinghua University, participated in this event.

Professor Peter Agre examined the discovery and medical applications of aquaporin. He noted that life sciences are developing rapidly around the world, the advancement of science and technology has greatly promoted social progress and economic development, and the speed of China's scientific development is also astounding. Professor Agre hoped that Chinese young people would continue their efforts to devote themselves to scientific research.

Students ask questions

Tsinghua Top Talk is a multi-disciplinary academic forum initiated in 2013 and hosted by the Tsinghua Postgraduate Association. “Top Talk” aims to build a high-level academic exchange platform for students by inviting highly renowned academics from different disciplines (mainly Nobel Prize winners, Turing Award recipients, and Fields Medal winners) to engage in an open dialogue with Tsinghua students. Students are encouraged to question academic authorities and challenge existing academic paradigms in the hope that "dialogue can stimulate innovation".
