“The Third Eye” Won World Top Ten Award in 2013 iF Concept Design Competition
A design work named “The Third Eye” by Tsinghua graduate students Bai Ying, Liu Yuanyuan and Jiang Xiaowei from Academy of Arts & Design, recently won world top ten award in 2013 iF Concept Design competition.

Bai Ying and Liu Yuanyuan participated in the awarding ceremony held in Hamburg where they had a great time talking with young designers from all over the world, sharing ideas about the future of industrial design.
Deterioration of eyesight is a common problem among elderly people. Having to carry around two sets of glasses for both short-sighted and far-sighted vision is a serious inconvenience. The design solves this problem. Inspired by the way human eyes provide clear vision, the students designed these glasses which can easily adjust the strength of the glasses’ lenses. The ophthalmic lens is made of membrane-like material, and contains a certain amount of liquid. A metallic memory material is used to make the frame, and it can comfortably adopt two different shapes. By adjusting the distance between the top and bottom frames one was able to change the diameter of the lens, so that the membrane material bends inwards or outwards, to achieve concave lens or convex lens.
