Professor Robert Stern, Dean of Yale University’s School of Architecture, visited the School of Architecture at Tsinghua University on September 25th.
During his visit, Professor Stern had a discussion with Professor Zhu Wenyi, Dean of Tsinghua’s School of Architecture, Professor Lv Zhou, Vice Dean of Tsinghua’s School of Architecture, and several faculty from the School of Architecture, exchanging ideas on cooperation and future development.
In the following several years, the two deans agreed that Yale and Tsinghua would further enhance their cooperation through Workshops, Joint Studios, and faculty and student exchanges.
Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe met with Professor Stern later that day. “I hope that cooperation between the schools further strengthens the bonds of friendship between Yale and Tsinghua,” said Vice President Xie.
Professor Stern then delivered a speech at the School of Architecture in which he shared with the audience his experiences in architecture design.
Robert Stern, founder of and senior partner in the firm of Robert A.M. Stern Architects of New York City, is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).He received the Medal of Honor in 1984 and the President's Award in 2001 from AIA’s New York chapter. Prior to becoming Dean in 1998, he was a professor of architecture and Director of the Preservation Program in the Graduate School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation at Columbia University. Mr. Stern served from 1984 to 1988 as the first director of Columbia's Temple Hoyne Buell Center for the Study of American Architecture. He has lectured extensively in the United States and abroad on both historical and contemporary topics in architecture.
