Following the resounding success of the First Beijing International New Media Arts Exhibition and Symposium in May of last year, 2005 has welcomed another gathering of the international new media art community in Beijing.
The Second Beijing International New Media Arts Exhibition and Symposium opened at the Millennium Museum June 21, with the theme “In the Line of Flight.” Co-organizers of the event were Tsinghua University; Institute for Unstable Media, The Netherlands; and the Center for Art and Media Technology, in Germany.
Attending the opening ceremony were Vice Minister of Education Wu Qidi, Tsinghua Vice President Wang Jinsong, and Vice Chairperson of Tsinghua University Council Wang Mingzhi.
“In the Line of Flight,” which runs through July 11, features representative works of telemetric art, virtual reality, net art, robotic art, interactive cinema, software art, nano art, and other new forms facilitated through media technologies.
The new media arts featured in the exhibition emphasize the struggle of city dwellers, and propose new perspectives on contemporary urban conditions from around the world.
