US Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham emphasized the importance of Sino-U.S. cooperation in Energy in a speech at the School of Public Policy and Management on December 17.
Addressing faculty and students on the topic of “U.S.- China Energy Cooperation: Looking Back and Looking Forward”, Mr. Abraham talked about the challenges and potential for cooperation in energy between the two nations.
“The United States and China will obviously play huge roles in painting the global energy picture over the coming decades,” he said. “What that picture will look like will depend in great part on the degree to which our countries decide to work together, and the degree to which we maintain and strengthen our commitments to science and technology.”
He talked about the cooperation of the two countries in the fields of carbon sequestration and pollution-free hydrogen.
The energy secretary said he believed that there would be “a bright future for China, the United States, and indeed the world.”
After the speech, he answered several questions from students on topics including ways to promote cooperation between the two countries, environment protection.
Before the speech, Mr. Abraham visited the Institute of Nuclear and New Energy Technology (INET) of Tsinghua University and also the 10MW High Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (HTR-10).
He also visited the Fuel Cell City Bus, developed by Tsinghua University.
