(Tsinghua News Center) Mr. Ronald Dunn, President and CEO of the Academic and International Group of Thomson Learning Corporation, delivered a speech on “Learning and Publishing in the Digital Age” for the students of the School of Journalism and Communication on March 18.
As one of the world’s largest providers of lifelong learning information, Thomson Learning serves the needs of individuals, learning institutions and corporations with products and services for both traditional and distance learning. Mr. Dunn’s lecture mainly covered the following issues: the general business overview of Thomson Learning, especially its advanced services and abundant resources in digital age, and the prospect of China’s educational market.
During the speech, Mr. Dunn pointed out that academic institutions like Tsinghua University, which produce “knowledge workers of the future” were their key customers, and thus they highlighted their cooperation with the Chinese universities. As textbook publishers, they not only put emphasis on the traditional and physical means of education, but also exert more and more effort in the field of distance learning and the electronic information services, such as the electronic database and digital teaching materials.
After the speech, Mr. Dunn answered students’ questions, and touched on the issue of government regulations on publishing and the problem of piracy.
The event was hosted by Dr. Dong GuanPeng, assistant dean of the school of Journalism and Communication.
