2021 International Conference on Computational Social Sciences held

The Annual International Conference on Computational Social Sciences, co-organized by the School of Social Sciences at Tsinghua University and the Computational Social Science Institute of Tsinghua University was recently held online. Over 40 scholars from top domestic and international universities, such as Harvard University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Chicago, Duke University, Northwestern University, Australian National University, University of Southampton, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Nanjing University, and Macau City University, communicated together to conduct in-depth discussions on topics such as digital economics and computational economics, computational political science and international relations, computational sociology and social computing, cognition and intelligence. Prof. Liu Taoxiong, who is Professor of Economics at Tsinghua University, presided over the opening remarks of the conference.

Focusing on the common issues of the development of computational social sciences, the conference consisted of two keynote speeches and four panels. The first panel was hosted by Prof. Meng Tianguang, who is Professor of Political Science at Tsinghua University and the last panel was hosted by Prof. Jar-Der Luo, who is Professor of Sociology at Tsinghua University.

11 Professors, including Prof. Alex Sandy Pentland, Professor of Media Arts & Science at MIT, Prof. Kyle Beardsley, Professor of Political Science at Duke University, Prof. Richard Freeman, Herbert Ascherman Chair of Economics at Harvard University, Prof. James Evans, Professor of Sociology and Director of the Knowledge Lab at the University of Chicago, Prof. Wang Dashun, Associate Professor of the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, Prof. Peng Kaiping, Professor of Psychology, Prof. Wendy Hall, Regius Professor in Computer Science at the University of Southampton, Prof. X Fu iaoming, Professor of Computer Science at the Institute of Computer Science, Prof. Liu Zhiyuan, Associate Professor of Computer Science and Technology (DCST) at Tsinghua University, Prof. Ye Guiping, Deputy President of the City University of Macau, and Prof. Jar-Der Luo, Professor of Sociology at Tsinghua University, gave inspiring speeches at the conference, which presented the diversity and advancement of computational social sciences in global academia.

Experts at the conference expressed the opinion that the future of the development of computational social sciences is promising, although challenges still exist. More than 15,000 faculty, students and alumni in related fields joined this conference through live broadcasts. Participants all believed that the roadmap of computational social science would be clearer after the in-depth discussion and communication at the conference.
