Tsinghua launches China-UK humanities initiative

Tsinghua launched an initiative on December 6, the China-UK Association for Humanities in Higher Education, bringing together 12 Chinese and UK universities.

Participants at the opening ceremony watched performances put together by Tsinghua University’s Art Troupe and international students from Tsinghua. They performed the traditional Chinese music, Jasmine Flower as well as a selection of 15 popular English songs.

The association was the achievement of the China-UK Dialogue on the Humanities in Higher Education, which is a part of the fourth UK-China High-Level People-to-People Dialogue.

Tsinghua University, Fudan University and Universities UK organized the China-UK Dialogue on the Humanities in Higher Education.

The Dialogue is a key pillar in the UK-China relationship: it provides a forum to celebrate ties between the two peoples, and a platform from which to drive greater co-operation.

Using Humanities and Humanitarian Education, the aim of the dialogue is to strengthen academic and cultural exchanges between universities in the East and the West.

A dialogue will be held annually together with conferences co-organized by member universities to promote the event. The dialogue in 2017 will be organized by the University of Oxford’s China Centre.

Chinese and UK universities taking part in the initiative are:
Tsinghua University
Fudan University
Peking University
Wuhan University
Chinese University of Hong Kong
University of Oxford
Needham Research Institute, University of Cambridge
School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London
King's College London
University of Reading
University of Manchester
University of Warwick
