The Swedish Delegation on Science Awards visited Tsinghua on March 23 and spoke at the Tsinghua Forum.
The delegation members included Professor Anders Flodström, President of the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Professor Börje Johansson from KTH, Professor Sven Lidin from Stockholm University, and Professor Bertil Fredholm from Karolinska Institutet.
Tsinghua Vice President Xie Weihe delivered the welcome speech at the Forum, which attracted more than 400 students and teachers.
The speeches given by the delegation members focused on “The Nobel Prize and Scientific Discovery.” Professor Flodström, Professor Johansson, Professor Fredholm and Professor Lidin respectively gave an introduction of the Nobel Prize, including the life of founder Alfred Nobel, and his will, which specified his wishes for the prize. The speakers also explained the procedures involved in awarding the prize.
The delegation also paid visits to several departments and labs in Tsinghua after the Forum.
Tsinghua President Gu Binglin met and had a talk with the delegation members later in the day.
The Tsinghua Forum features speakers addressing a wide range of topics, including science and technology, economics, and society and culture as they are related to the development of China and the world. It is held four times a year.
