The Third Biennial International Modern Fiber Art Exhibition and Academic Symposium, sponsored by the Tsinghua Academy of Art and Design, was held recently at the Shanghai Library.
The exhibition featured more than 190 works of fiber art by 214 artists. More than 16 countries were represented in the event, including the United States , Japan , South Korea , Norway , Latvia , Georgia , Germany , Bangladesh , Great Britain , Canada , Sweden , Lithuania and China .
Thirteen Tsinghua artists received awards for their works. Of these, three received bronze medals: The Garden of Eden by Chen Ling, News No.1 by Chang Jie, and Shoupingshanshui by Yu Yunbin. Honors for Outstanding Work went to Liu Jude, Hong Xing and eight other participants.
Many world-renowned artists displayed work at the exhibition, including Kandareli Givi from the Tbilissi Academy of Art, Georgia.
And 50 art academies from China participated, among them the Luxun Academy of Art, the Tianjin Academy of Art, and the Sichuan Academy of Art.
The genre of fiber art is both ancient and new, combining classic and modern theories and techniques. In the 1980s, international academic exchange ushered Chinese fiber art into the world arena.
Beijing hosted the first and second exhibitions in 2000 and 2002.
