A celebration to mark the 5th anniversary of the Academy of Arts & Design was held in the MainBuilding on November 19. Prof. Chen Xi, President of Tsinghua University Council, Prof. Wang Dazhong, Honorary President of Tsinghua University Council, Vice President Zhang Fengchang, Vice President Xie Weihe, Wang Mingzhi, President of the Academy of Arts & Design, attended the afternoon event.
Since the merger of the CentralAcademy of Arts & Design into Tsinghua in 1999, science and art have joined hands for five years. Activities to celebrate the 5th anniversary will last for a week, including the ceremony and an exhibition of the works by students and teachers of the Academy of Arts & Design.
“The combination of science and art has been further strengthened through series of measures; the mutual complementarities of the two sides in disciplines have been fully putting into effect,” said Vice President Xie, “it promotes the construction of the disciplines of the university as a whole.”
Founded in 1956, the CentralAcademy of Arts & Design possesses high reputation in technological design. In 1999, with the system reformation of higher education in China and approved by the Ministry of Education, P.R.C, Central Academy of Arts & Design merged into Tsinghua University and was re-named as the Academy of Arts & Design, Tsinghua University.
